Mordecai Lipshutz

Mordecai Lipshutz
One of the longtime announcers at Dubya-Hex-Hex-Hi, Mordecai Lipshutz (“MORE-duh-ki LIP-shitz”) is retiring.
Dubya-Hex-Hex-Hi (WXXI) is the public-radio FM classical-music station out of Rochester we listen to. (We also give them annual support.)
He’s only about 58 (born in 1950), so this sounds a lot like my retirement from the mighty Mezz; i.e. something is wrong.
I say that because it seems none of the on-air personalities at Dubya-Hex-Hex-Hi ever retire.
Morning-man, Simon Pontin, is older than us, and “the professor” (Richard Gladwell), is in his 80s.
Gladwell doesn’t do a daily program, but produces a weekly nationwide program, and fills in on occasion.
Considering where I am now (essentially not where I was back then), I wonder if I should go back to work.
But on the other hand, if our income is almost as much not working as working, and we have so much saved, why work?
Getting up at the crack of dawn was harsh, and I sure didn’t have time to get in shape.
The other problem is the Messenger is no longer the happy place it was when I was there.
Which is partly the reason Linda retired.
She liked computer-programming, but her work environment was horrible.
Better to work out and walk the dog.
I hope Lipshutz can do that.

  • The “mighty Mezz” is the Canandaigua Daily-Messenger newspaper, from where I retired over two years ago. Best job I ever had.
  • “The Messenger” changed owners (it once was local family owned).
  • “Linda” is my wife of 40+ years.
