The end of Netscape
I have two Netscapes in my dock: 9.0 which is only a browser, and looks a lot like FireFox; and 7.2.
I keep the 7.2 because -a) it still has my Netscape RoadRunner e-mail, the onliest e-mail the Messenger Ne’er-do-Wells can respond to (MyWay is an Internet e-mail; and they’re blocked), and -b) FireFox and 9.0 won’t let me download pictures, whereas 7.2 will.
Last night (Saturday, March 1, 2008) I got a message that MyFamblee.com would no longer be supporting Netscape.
THIS AIN’T THE GLOOM-AND-DOOM SCENARIO THE ALL-KNOWING GRAND POOBAH WANNABEE NOISILY PREDICTED.
In fact, they’re recommending FireFox®, the browser the bluster-boy seems to be afraid of.
So I immediately dumped my 9.0, and started fiddling FlagOut with the FireFox I already have. I had FlagOut as a FireFox bookmark.
The onliest reason I ever used 9.0 was to fiddle FlagOut, and in fact their most recent update dumped WeatherBug. (MyCast was better.)
No mention of tired old Internet-Explorer® at all.
My OS-X had it, and still does; 5.2.
I only keep it because every once-in-a-while I run across a web-site that hasn’t been updated to work with FireFox.
This usually only occurs with online shopping. I try FireFox first, and switch to IE if FireFox doesn’t work. —Sometime even IE doesn’t work.
MyFamblee.com was also recommending “Flock,” a new browser that like FireFox is based on Mozilla code.
I plan to install it, with hopes that unlike FireFox it will let me download pictures. FireFox is a great browser, but it lacks the download function. It won’t even allow me to blow up FlagOut photos.
—A glaring flaw that is wide-open for all to see.
So from now on, FlagOut will get fiddled by me with Mozilla code.
In fact, perhaps I can still fiddle with Netscape 9.0, since it appears to be FireFox.
But I sure don’t fiddle with Internet-Explorer®, since it mucks up everything.
Copy/paste an Appleworks file and it puts in hard returns at line-ends.
You IE users are getting left in the dust.
Like my blog-site, MyFamblee.com recommended FireFox®.
