Wedding bells

A niece in Georgia has gotten married. She just turned 33.
Well, good for her, and I hope it works.
Marriage is not easy, although we’re approaching 43 years.
Following is a thank-you card we received:
“Let our family, friends, and community witness that on the 10th day of October in the year 2010, in the community of Cumming, GA, the covenant of marriage.......” (blah-blah-blah.....)
What it should have said is:
“Let our family, friends, and community witness that on the 10th day of October in the year 2010, in the community of Cumming, GA, barefoot on a small truckload of beach-sand dumped in my mother’s back-yard, in the shade of plastic palm trees......” (etc, etc, etc.)

• “We” is me and my wife, “Linda.”
